My heart was pounding with excitement until I started thinking. One, I was not in the top ten in my classes so why was Prof. Carden going to recommend me? I then thought that maybe I had befriended him with our long talks. I asked what kind of research they did. He stuttered a little and said he didn't know but that it was a highly secret facility and it was probably military in nature. I shrugged off his stuttering answer, as this was very interesting and exciting to me.  

He gave me a phone number and name to contact. I thanked him several times I believe and when I hung up I was so excited I wanted to celebrate. Then I thought, "What am I thinking?" I only have a good lead not a job. Then I thought, maybe Prof. Carden had called and recommended many students and I was only one of several that were recommended. This put my feet back on the ground and I put the name and number of the contact person by the phone and said to my self. "I'll call in the morning as it may work out to be something or, not but it is the only good lead I have had since I graduated."

Even though I tried to turn off my thoughts about this I could not. The more I thought about is the more it puzzled me. For example, why did Prof. Carden not ask if I had found a job? If I knew then what I know now I would have torn up that note with the contact on it. I tried to remember what Prof. Carden and I use to talk about all those times.

 As I thought back, I realized that he didn't talk much other than to keep me going and talking about my wildest thoughts. We talked many times about my theory of circles and cycles. I told him that I noticed that everything everywhere moved in cycles or circles. And we should look for the cycle in everything we want to research. Identifying the cycle of anything we are researching we can then predict what is next in its progress or development. Little did I know how that would lead me to where I am now with a wish that I had never made that call?
